Driven Brands Collision Group Celebrates 25 Years of Supporting Cystic Fibrosis

(NewsUSA) -

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (January 4, 2023) – Driven Brands’ collision group (“Driven Collision”), home to industry-leading repair networks, ABRA  Auto Body Repair of America, CARSTAR U.S., CARSTAR Canada, and Fix Auto USA, is celebrating its 25th anniversary of supporting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Cystic Fibrosis Canada.

To commemorate this milestone, Driven Collision has donated 25 gift baskets to deserving children across North America within the cystic fibrosis (CF) community. The baskets contain a boxing set, including boxing gloves and a mini punching bag, representing the fight against cystic fibrosis, a puzzle, a gift card, and other fun surprises. Each of the recipients were involved with the Driven Collision group this year, illustrating their own special pieces of artwork that were auctioned off as part of several charitable fundraisers throughout the year.

“Our franchise family has a deep commitment to supporting the communities they work and live in, which also includes charitable initiatives,” said Chris Dawson, collision and paint president, Driven Brands. “Through the years, our commitment to this cause has only accelerated, as we see more franchisees realizing the positive impact they have on the CF community, as they help raise valuable funds and awareness for this cause.”

Driven Collision first began its involvement with the organizations 25 years ago when a CARSTAR Canada franchisee’s granddaughter was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. At the time, the Canadian CARSTAR family rallied together to raise valuable funds for the little-known disease.

“The CF Foundation is deeply grateful for the support of Driven Collision,” said, Patrick Feeley, Chief Development Officer at the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. “Their generosity and continued dedication to the cause continues to build on our work, alongside the CF community, and has helped add decades of life for people with CF. We are focused on supporting people with CF no matter where they are on their journey and pursuing a cure for all people with the disease.”

Since 1997, the collision family has wholeheartedly embraced the cystic fibrosis cause, hosting various fundraising events, sponsoring local initiatives, and simply donating year after year, helping raise over $4 million to date across North America for this cause.

"Incredible advancements over the past 25 years have changed the trajectory of a cystic fibrosis diagnosis,” said Kate White, Director, Leadership Giving and Corporate Partnerships, Cystic Fibrosis Canada. “There are now more adults living with the disease than children, some members of the CF community are accessing a potentially life changing drug, and current research is poised to solve the CF community’s greatest health needs. We’ve made wonderful progress, but these new drugs can’t help everyone, and CF still carries a significant burden; therefore, our work must continue. We couldn’t do this important work without the steadfast support of our long-standing partners. The Driven Collision group is a shining example of the impact that can be made through corporate philanthropy.”

“A lot has happened over the last 25 years, which has been extremely motivating to our collision family, encouraging us all to continue the fight,” continued Dawson. “We are determined to see the day that CF stands for Cure Found!”

Five Tips to Prepare Your Portable Generator for Winter Weather

(NewsUSA) - When temperatures drop and snow starts falling, portable generators of every size need a quick check-in to make sure that they’re ready to go before a possible power outage during inclement weather.

The experts at Generac shared five tips to help you prepare your generator for the winter-weather season.

Easy-to Access Storage: When it is not in use, make sure that your generator is stored in an easy-to-access place in a garage, shed, or other area where it can be accessed during inclement weather. While it’s important to keep it in a dry space when not in use, most storage places are not suitable for a running unit. Any fuel-powered generator must be operated outdoors, away from doors, vents, or windows due to potential carbon monoxide buildup.

Check, Change and Prepare Oil: Check your service manual for recommended timing between oil changes and be sure your unit is ready to run at a moment’s notice, including the use of oil stabilizers and winter-ready oil, if recommended.

Have Safe, Stable Fuel on Hand: Fresh is best. Gasoline begins to break down and become less effective at about 30 days and diesel, while more stable, runs the risk of developing sediment or sludge, particularly in low temperatures. Be sure fresh fuel is available for your generator and add stabilizers as recommended by your owner’s manual.

Double-Check the Components:  It’s important to give your generator a thorough check for any damage that may have occurred while stored. Make sure nothing is out of place and there is no corrosion or rust in critical areas. Rodents, bugs, and birds are also known to nest in engines, so clear any pest debris before operation. Manual choking to bring more fuel into the engine on an electric-start generator may also help with low temperature starting.

Maintenance: To ensure that your winterizing efforts have worked, regularly check up on your generator, running it for five minutes to ensure that it’s fully operational. Take this time to double check any of the above concerns and rest assured that your backup plan is in its best condition for an outage.

Generator technology has come a long way. While portable generators can easily power up a few appliances straight out of the box, automatic home standby generators offer greater peace of mind, starting automatically when the power goes out, and with the ability to run continuously until utility power is restored. Sitting outside of the home similarly to a central air unit, a home standby connects via an automatic transfer switch, either wired to power the entire house or just select critical circuits. The power of these generators is tailored to a home’s size and power requirements and is a failsafe for power outages while you’re away from the home. Larger fuel capacities or a direct connection to natural gas lines provides longer term, less complicated protection when properly maintained. Learn more about portable and home standby generators at www.generac.com.

Keeping the Holidays Cozy and Bright

(NewsUSA) - Natural gas and electricity produced with natural gas are critical sources of energy throughout the year, but especially during the winter months when families need to keep their homes cozy and bright.

Households this winter are expected to use more natural gas because of slightly colder weather projections than last year, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), the statistical agency within the U.S. Department of Energy. The fact that about half the homes in the United States use natural gas for heating highlights the importance of having dependable service.

Williams, which is one the largest natural gas infrastructure companies in the United States, is focused on reliably handling approximately 30 percent of the nation’s natural gas so it is there when consumers need it most.

Making this happen requires a sophisticated infrastructure network that spans the country as well as a dedicated workforce committed to working 24 hours a day, seven days a week to keep the gas flowing. That includes holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Nathan Thee is a senior pipeline controller for Williams in Tulsa, Okla. with more than 10 years of experience. He knows the critical nature of his job means his work shift fluctuates and can require sacrificing time with family on the holidays to perform his job alongside teammates.

Pipeline control is like air traffic control at an airport, except we’re directing gas in pipelines,” said Thee. “We’re in constant communication with processing plants and well operators, making sure gas flow is up and running from the well heads to the plants.”

As a controller, Thee typically monitors several pipelines remotely and directs assets where they need to be so there’s no service interruption to customers. Pipeline controllers are also coordinating with operations employees in the field around the clock with any necessary work or checks they need to ensure system reliability.

Natural gas is most often associated with home heating in the winter, but it is also used to generate most of the electricity used in the United States, according to EIA. Therefore, in the summer months when demand for electricity to run air conditioners increases so does demand for natural gas. To cushion these high-demand periods of winter and summer, the industry stores away huge quantities of natural gas every year. The most common way to store natural gas is in large caverns underground. It can also be stored in smaller quantities in tanks above ground.

The gas is injected into underground storage typically late in the spring or early in fall. These periods are known as the “shoulder months” when natural gas demand declines with the mild weather. Building up gas inventories during these times ensures there is enough supply on hand when the seasons change and demand returns.

As the world moves to a low-carbon future, Williams is well positioned to support the continued replacement of higher-emitting fuels such as coal and heating oil domestically and abroad. According to EIA projections, the displacement of emission-intensive coal with natural gas and renewable energy will allow the U.S. to continue reducing carbon dioxide emissions into 2035.

In addition, natural gas remains an indispensable partner in supporting society’s ambitions to add more renewable energy to the power grid. Natural gas ensures reliable power generation when intermittent wind and solar resources are unavailable. Concurrently, the ability of the U.S. to export liquefied natural gas will also provide other countries with the environmental benefits of replacing more carbon intensive energy sources.

Demand for clean energy is on the rise and natural gas is playing a critical role in moving the world to a low-carbon future. This winter as families depend on the warmth of their homes – and during every season of the year – Williams and its employees will be there to safely and reliably provide the natural gas that is used each day.
